Hrabosky and Fredbird teach kids about “Doin’ It Right”

Former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Al Hrabosky, known as the “Mad Hungarian,” and Cardinals mascot Fredbird presented the “Doin’ It Right” program to elementary students at both Brownstown and St. Elmo on Tuesday, March 28.

The free program is sponsored by Fox Sports Midwest and presents a positive message about the importance of a participatory and drug-free life. The 50-minute program included videos, prizes, crowd participation, and humor.

Students were taught to stay in school, participate in athletics, and say “no” to drugs. In addition, they were taught how to live an active life, make healthy food choices, and the dangers of drug use.

The Cardinals duo visited Brownstown Elementary in the morning and St. Elmo Elementary in the afternoon.

Brownstown SCC raises nearly 10K at carnival

The Brownstown Elementary School Community Club (SCC) recently held a carnival fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 24. The event raised $9300 for use throughout the school.

In years past, funds have assisted in the purchase of Smartboards and playground equipment. The SCC will designate the funds for a project at a later date.

Newly-hired elementary principal Sherry Harmon was on hand for the carnival. She will assume her duties July 1.
