Richard L. Miller, 77, of Altamont, died at 2:40 a.m., Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Willowbrook Memory Care in Effingham.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 5 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont with Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4 at Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont and for one hour prior to service time at the church. Richard Louis Miller was born on Thursday, Aug. 28, 1941 in Altamont to Elmer and Sophia (Yagow) Miller. He married Edith Yagow on Sept. 30, 1962 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Richard was a faithful member and long-time usher and trustee at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont. He was a Mound township trustee for many years, was a 30-year member of the Altamont Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of the Mill Road Threshermen. He enjoyed going to auctions and collecting antiques. His working career began at Altamont Lumber and Grain and continued at Grobengieser Sons, BASF/Flint Ink in Salem, and at Wright Furniture and Wright at Home Interiors.
In addition to his wife of over 56 years, he is survived by: sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Jim) Shumaker and Margaret Miller, both of Altamont; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his brother Norman; and a brother in infancy, Franklin.
