Doyle Beck, 85, of St. Elmo, died at 4:09 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at his home, with his family by his side.
Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, May 18, at the St. Elmo Christian Church with Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Burial with military rites by St. Elmo American Legion Post #420 followed at Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be made to HSHS Hospice or American Legion Post 420. Gieseking Funeral Home of Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Doyle was born on Sunday, Aug. 6, 1933 in Loudon township, near Wright’s Corner. He was raised by his grandparents, A.M. and Clara Beck. He married Barbara Masters on Oct. 3, 1954 in Corinth, Miss. Doyle was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was affiliated with the St. Elmo Christian Church, was a member of American Legion Post 420, and had served on the St. Elmo City Council. Doyle was retired from Contel Corporation.
He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Barbara, of St. Elmo; sons Brad Beck of Assumption and Steve Beck of St. Elmo; daughters Susan (Larry) Jennings of Vandalia and Crystal Beck of Bondville; grandchildren Bryan and Aaron Jennings and Ashley and Eric Beck; and great-grandchildren Blaine and Cole Jennings and Lily Beck. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother Juanita; and his half-brother Jerry Rhodes.
