Floyd H. Mellendorf, 88, of Springfield, formerly of rural Louisville and Effingham passed away on April 19, 2019, in the St. John’s Hospice Program at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
He was born on January 23, 1931, the son of Walter and Louise Mellendorf of rural Louisville. He moved to Effingham to be a Feed Salesman for Effingham-Clay Service Company.
Floyd married Bettie Schlecte at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg on September 19, 1954. During this union, a son Kevin was born.
He then moved to Springfield, where he met and married Mary Lou Vickery on May 12, 1979. She survives along with his son, Kevin (JoAnn) of Sullivan and their children, Brian (Caitlin) of Sullivan and Kristy (Shane) Brownfield of Champaign. Also surviving are three stepchildren, five step grandchildren, and seven step grandchildren. His sister, Phyllis Will and brother-in-law, Leo Stuckemeyer, both of Altamont and sister-in-law, Irma Mellendorf of Dieterich, also survives. His parents preceded him in death, along with brother, Dale Mellendorf, sister, Viola Stuckemeyer and brother-in-law, Alvin Will.
Floyd was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Springfield for many years. Per his wishes, there was no formal visitation or funeral at this time. A celebration of life will follow at a later date.
