Helen Rhodes Leverton, 66, of Springfield, was called home by our Lord at 4:33 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital.
Helen was born Sept. 18, 1952 in Shelbyville, the daughter of Jerry and Fannie Jewell Rhodes. She married Richard Leverton on Dec. 1, 1973 at Spring Hill Church.
Helen was a graduate of St. Elmo High School. She retired from SIU School of Medicine after more than 20 years. She enjoyed needlepoint, scrapbooking, and making greeting cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jimmy Rhodes; mother and father-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Leverton of Springfield; two daughters, Dawn (Bob) Vicari of Springfield and Amanda (Scott) Lahr of Taylorville; two grandchildren, William Lahr and Brody Kiesow; step-grandchildren, Brett and Valerie Vicari; step-great-grandchild Karson; sister Jane Rhodes of Concordia, Mo.; two brothers, Jerry (Rhonda) Rhodes of Beecher City, and Dean (Cindy) Rhodes of St. Clair, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Helen’s family received friends at a visitation from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Springfield.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Rev. Samuel Janssen officiating. Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Park.
