Margaret “Jo” Powell, 99, of Decatur, formerly of Altamont, died at 1:55 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at Fair Havens Christian Village in Decatur.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 at Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont with Rev. Bill Weaver officiating. Burial followed at Griffith Cemetery in Brownstown. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until service time. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Margaret Josephine Powell was born on October 9, 1919 in Wirt, Okla. to Fred B. and Anna Mae (Depew) Love. She married Charles Snively in 1940 and later married Glen Powell in 1958, and he preceded her in death in 1988. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and VFW Post #7676 Auxiliary, both of Altamont. She was retired from Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, where she was a dietary supervisor from 1955 until 1985.
Jo is survived by her sons; Charles, Jr. (Sherry) Snively of East Alton and Roger (Sharon) Snively of Macon; daughter, Patricia Ann (Steve) Kahn of Cincinnati, Ohio; brother, Fred B. Love, Jr. of Owensboro, Ky.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three half-brothers; and two sisters.
