Thomas Morland Whiston, 83, of Sun City, Ariz. passed away peacefully at his home on Nov. 22, 2018. He was born on August 17, 1935 in Oak Park to Leona and Joseph Whiston. His family moved to St. Elmo, where Tom grew up and attended school.
Tom was particularly proud of his accomplishments as part of his high school’s varsity football team. Tom graduated from the University of Illinois in 1957 and made lifelong friendships as part of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. After graduating, Tom lived and worked in the Chicago area, where he met and fell in love and married Lynn Whitmire.
Tom and Lynn lived in Omaha, Neb., for 25 years where they raised two daughters and co-ran a real estate brokerage and appraisal business. After a successful run, they decided to retire to a warmer climate, and relocated to Sun City in 1996. The move allowed them both much more time to enjoy their recreational pursuits, and Tom, an avid golfer, was able to rack up eight holes-in-one. He also managed to stay civically active during his retirement, serving on several recreation center committees and was a past member of the Sun City Board of Directors.
Tom is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lynn Whiston; their two daughters, Deborah Garman (Andrew) of Riverside, and Constance Odom (Mark) of Georgetown, Texas; and four college-aged grandchildren: Brody, Emily, Tyler and Alex. He will be forever remembered for his warm sense of humor and his engaging personal style.
A memorial will be held later.
