Geraldine Voelker Mizelle, 86, of Jacksonville, Fla. passed away on Nov. 8, 2018. She was born at Altamont on Aug. 24, 1932 to the late Cora Bandelow Voelker and Edwin Voelker.
Geraldine worked for State Farm Insurance in their home office in Bloomington when the company expanded and built a new Southeastern office in Jacksonville, Fla. She was among the 100 plus employees who transferred to the new office as the “start up” crew.
She married Robert Mizelle and while he was a mechanical engineering student at University of Florida, she worked at the UF Law School. After his graduation they lived in the southeast — Knoxville/Oak Ridge, Tenn., Covington, Ga., and Thomasville, Ga. While raising their three children, she volunteered for church and school, as Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, Covington Service League, Archbold (Thomasville, Ga.) Hospital Auxiliary/Pink Lady, Thomasville Garden Club, and was a Rose Show award winner. She also worked at a mental health center and was co-owner and bookkeeper for a small business. She was a member of Arlington Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years; her daughter Lori (Paul) Digby of Bainbridge, Ga.; her two sons, David (Dana) Mizelle of Marietta, Ga., and Tommy (Cindy) Mizelle of Rockaway, N.J.; six grandchildren: Daniel (Ashley) Digby, Michelle Digby (Pauncho) Hufstetler, Bryan (Taylor) Digby, Dustin Mizelle, Brooke Mizelle, and Chaz Mizelle; six great-grandchildren: Van, Annabelle, and Alex Digby, Thomas and Emma Hufstetler, and Hampton Digby; and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by one brother, Dennis (Melba) Voelker, and brother-in-law Dan (Dot) Mizelle. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Virgil Voelker and Charlotte Haggard.
The funeral service will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Nov. 26, at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Parkinson Disease Association at apdaparkinson.org/research or to Arlington Presbyterian Church.
