Dorothy J. ‘Dot’ McCarty, 64, of Altamont died at 2:36 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018 peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
A funeral mass was held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Gieseking Funeral Home in Altamont with Fr. Chistudasan Kurisadima officiating. Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial followed at St. Clare Cemetery in Altamont. Memorials may be made to the Meals-On-Wheels or The Whoo Hoo Sisterhood, both of Altamont, or Fear Nothing in Effingham.
Dorothy June was born on Friday, May 21, 1954 in St. Elmo, to Mark A. and Barbara (Ledbetter) Golden. During her working career she had been employed with Stuckey’s Carriage Inn in Altamont and Martin’s IGA of Effingham. She was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church in Altamont. Dot enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Gerald A. (Melissa) Reed of Strasburg; grandchildren, Kaleene Reed of Altamont and Zachary, Mackenzie, and Paige Reed, all of Strasburg; and her great-grandchildren, Bentley, Adrian, Amelia and Maverick King and Shae Vonderheide.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Mark Golden and Barbara James; three brothers; and aunts and uncles.
