Mary Belle (Owen) McLean died on January 29, 2018 in Creve Coeur, Mo. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of St Elmo, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, St. Elmo. All are welcome.
Mary Belle was born in St. Elmo on July 9, 1932. She graduated from St Elmo High School in 1950 and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Maryville University and a Masters of health services from Webster University in St. Louis.
Mary Belle worked as a supervisor at DePaul Hospital St Louis for a number of years. She was a long standing member of Kirkwood United Methodist Church. She served on many committees, but her favorite volunteer work was on several mission trips to Mexico. She also served as a board member of OCAP (Older Adults Community Action Programs). She never forgot her St. Elmo roots and helped organize the STEHS alumni reunions. She enjoyed world travel, reading, crocheting lots of baby blankets, running after grandkids in her red Mini Cooper, and collecting eggcups as well as new shoes.
Mary Belle is preceded in death by her daughter Mary Catherine Vasterling (Steve) of St. Louis.
She is survived by her children Patricia Wrisley (Peter) of Austin, Texas, Ronald McLean (Beth) of St. Louis, and Donna Schneider (Bob) of St. Louis; her grandchildren Lauren Murphy (Shea), Stephanie Pfaff, Amanda Massey (Ben), Chris McLean (Natalie), Sean McLean (Jackie), and Alexander Schneider; and her great-grandchildren Michael, Joseph, Ty, Marilyn, and Landon.
The family requests donations to the St. Elmo United Methodist church in lieu of flowers.
