Norman Stuemke, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful servant went to his eternal home on Thursday, Jan. 4. He is at peace and no longer suffering from the short illness and multiple medical issues frustrating him.
Norman was born April 12, 1931 in Altamont, IL to Charles and Louise Stuemke. He was the baby of the family. His siblings included: Charles, Delbert, Adeline, Dorothy and Evelyn. Norm is survived by many nieces and nephews in Illinois and across the nation. Norm attended college at Concordia in River Forest, IL where he met his wife of 62 years, Dorothy. Norm accepted a call to be the principal of Redeemer Lutheran School out in the far north section of Austin in 1956. Blessed tremendously over the years, the school has grown. He received a Master’s degree from what is currently Texas State to enhance his education. Norm loved his job and the ministry at Redeemer and gave it his all. He retired from Redeemer in 1996.
He was blessed with three daughters: Pam and husband Mark Blick (Houston); Patty and husband Doug Hamm (Austin;) and Penny and husband David Hanson (Austin). Another love of his life were his grandchildren: Aaron and wife, Megan Blick; Christina and Anna Blick; Lauren and Jenna Hamm; Jaclyn, Katy and Carter Hanson. His great grandchildren are Norah and Greg Blick. He loved golfing, fishing with his former Redeemer students, and carpentry over the years. He also enjoyed taking care of his plants and making sure the bird feeder was always filled to the brim.
Norm loved his church, family, and many, many friends. We thank God for his commitment to providing a quality Christian education to so many and for encouraging his family to love God! Well done, good and faithful servant.
Memorial service was Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, Norm would be honored by contributions submitted to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Redeemer Lutheran School Scholarship Fund. RLC 1500 Anderson Lane Austin Texas 78757.
