Harry D. Parks, 92, of South Elgin, IL passed away at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, 2017 at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017 at the Crossroads Free Will Baptist Church, 1501 North Keller Drive in Effingham, IL. Pastor John Hollis officiated. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Effingham American Legion was in the Arborcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Effingham, IL. Visitation was held two hours prior to the funeral from 9-11 a.m. at the church. The Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola is assisting the family with arrangements.
Harry was born on July 23, 1925 in Mattoon, IL. He was a son of Earl and Blanche (Leith) Parks. He married Ruth Ashbaugh on April 26, 1947 in Jackson Township. She passed away on May 13, 2016.
He is survived by seven children: Clayton Parks of Elburn, IL; Dennis Parks and his friend Jackie of Effingham, IL; Gerald “Mark” Parks and his wife Angela of Effingham IL; Lloyd “Jimmy” Parks and his wife Jill of St. Charles, IL; Sandra Schiber and her husband Phil of Livingston, CA; Sharon Herdegen and her husband Clint of Hoffman Estates, IL; and Harvey Parks and his wife Laura of South Elgin, IL; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Melba Gillispie of Lawrenceville, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two children, Stephen Parks, and Robert “Bobby” Parks, and nine siblings.
Harry was a Navy Veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Moose Lodge.
He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren.
