School Board Adopts New Budget, Policies, and Hires

The St. Elmo Community Unit School District #202 Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

After a brief budget hearing, the regular session proceeded by approving the minutes from the Aug. 21 board meeting.  Bills and financial reports were given along with monthly administrative reports.

The board next adopted the Fiscal Year 2018 Budget.  Thanks to the approval of SB1947 last month by the state, which includes Evidence Based Funding, the school district will see funding from the state level.

The board approved the Joint Agreement Resolution with OKAW Area Vocational Center.  This agreement must be made each year to ensure students have the opportunities to participate in vocational classes such as building trades, agricultural mechanics, autobody, etc.

The administrator and Teacher Salary and Benefits Report was approved by the board.  These reports are per sections 10-20.47 and 34-18.38 of the Illinois School Code.  Basically this requires the district to publicly post salaries for employees.  This must be done each year and can be found on the school’s website.

Next the board adopted the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) PRESS Policy Updates.  PRESS stands for Policy Reference Education Subscription Service.  This is the IASB policy and procedure information and updating service.  The district employs this service to help ensure the board for district 202 is up to date on all proceedures and acting in accordance legally with state and federal laws and regulations.

Finally, the board approved the hired of several new athletic coaches.  Vanessa Wright, who is employeed at St. Elmo High School as a full time administrative assistant, was approved along with Carly Dorr as Jr. High Cheerleading Co-Coaches for the 2017-2018 school year.

Michael Pasley was approved as the new Jr. High Assistant Basketball Coach for the 2017-2018 school year.  Pasley previously coached the St. Elmo fifth and sixth grade basketball teams for several years.
