Wildcats have strong showing at home meet

The Altamont Wildcats track team continues to roll with another great performance at their home meet last Monday.

Altamont took first place on the boys side in both the 7th and 8th grade levels. They finished second in the 7th grade girls division and fourth in the 8th grade girls division.

Other competing schools at the met were Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, Neoga, Patoka, Sacred Heart, and Sigel St. Michael.

For the 7th grade boys, Altamont put up 137.25 points to take first. CHBC finished second with 89.25 points while Neoga took third with 73.25 points. Sigel St. Michael had 56.25 while Patoka and Sacred Heart tied for last with 31 points.

Altamont claimed first place in the 110 m hurdles (Rhodes), 100 m (Rhodes), 4×100 relay, and 400 m (Reardon).

The Wildcats second place finishes were in the 100 m (Suckow), 1600 m (Grunloh), 200 m (Rhodes), long jump (Reardon), High Jump (Winn), Discus (Kollman), and Pole Vault (Robinson).

Third place finishes for Altamont were in the 1600 m (Nelson), 400 m (Hammer), 800 m (Scott), and Pole Vault (Miller).

For the 8th grade boys, Altamont totaled 138 points for first place. Neoga took second with 112 while Sigel St. Michael had 65 for third. Sacred Heart scored 29, Patoka had 25, and CHBC finished with ten points for last place.

Altamont claimed first place in the 110 m hurdles (Mathesius), 4×200 relay, 400 m (Monk), and Discus (Abendroth).

Altamont took second in the 1600 m (Budde), 4×100 relay, 200 m (Mathesius), 4×400 relay, High Jump (Mathesius), Shot Put (Abendroth), and Pole Vault (Stuemke).

Third place finishes for Altamont were in the 110 m hurdles (Stuemke), 1600 m (Jackson), and Pole Vault (Stuckemeyer).

On the girls’ side, Altamont performed well at the 7th grade level, scoring 97 points for second place. Neoga claimed first with 114 and Sigel St. Michael tied Altamont with 97 points. CHBC was fourth with 75 while Sacred Heart had 24 points and Patoka scored 12 for sixth place.

Altamont claimed victories in the High Jump (Becker) and the Long Jump (Berg).

The Wildcats claimed second place in the 110 m Hurdles (Becker), 1600 m (Tedrick), 4×200 relay, 4×100 relay, 400 m (Fitzjarrald), 800 m (Fulk), and Pole Vault (Hosick).

Third place finishes for Altamont were in the 400 m (Wendling), 4×400 relay, and Pole Vault (Berg).

For the 8th grade girls, Altamont totaled 46 points for fourth place. CHBC won with 160 points and Neoga claimed second with 94. Sigel St. Michael had 62 for third while Patoka had 42 for fifth and Sacred Heart scored 16 for sixth place.

Altamont did not capture any first place finishes, but did claim second in the 200 m (Sigg).

The Wildcats took third place in the 4×400 relay and the Long Jump (Mette).

The NTJHC conference meet will take place this Tuesday in Altamont. It is the final meet before the state meet in Peoria on May 12 and 13.
