Norma Rush, 92, of Altamont, formerly of Brownstown, died at 7:25 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 29, from 9:30-11 a.m. at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with funeral services following at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Sidener Cemetery, rural St. Elmo.
Norma June Yakel was born on Monday, June 16, 1924 in St. Elmo to Charles Lester and Gaynell Elizabeth (Eaton) Yakel. She married Noble Frank Rush, Jr. on March 22, 1942 while he was serving his country during WWII. She was employed in the Houdaille-Hershey Plant’s Manhattan Project Division in Decatur during the war.
They enjoyed many years of productive farm life and were active in the United Methodist Church and camp work. In September 1969, Norma and Jr. joined The Gideon’s International Bible Association of Nashville, Tenn. and went on to hold a variety of state and local offices. They were charter members of the Vandalia camp. Jr. passed away on Nov. 30, 2000 at age 81.
Norma is survived by sister-in-law, Marilyn Yakel and by many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her: parents; husband; sister, Audrey; brother-in-law, Harold Richardson; brother, Edward Yakel who died in WWII; brother, Ernest Yakel; and sister-in-law, Betty; and Charles Yakel.
