Wildcats track dominates home meet

The Altamont Wildcats had a tremendous showing during Thursday’s home track meet, Other participating schools were Neoga, Sigel St. Michael, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, and Sacred Heart. Altamont took first overall in the 7th grade boys, 8th grade boys, and 7th grade girls. They finished 3rd for the 8th grade girls.

For the 7th grade boys, Altamont racked up 107 points. CHBC took second with 59 and Neoga finished third with 54. Sigel had 44 while Sacred Heart finished with 15 points.

Altamont got first place finishes in the 110 m hurdles (Rhodes), 100 m (Rhodes), 4×100 relay, 400 m (Reardon), long jump (Reardon), and discus (Kollmann).

Second place finishes for Altamont were in the 4×200 relay, 200 m (Rhodes), 800 m (Scott), long jump (Winn), high jump (Winn), and pole vault (Miller).

The Wildcats finished third in the 1600 m (Grunloh), 200 m (Suckow), 800 m (Runge), 4×400 relay, and long jump (Runge).

For the 8th grade boys, Altamont 130 points while Neoga finished second with 71. Sigel had 37, Sacred had 31, and CHBC totaled 8 points for fifth place.

Altamont took first place in the 110 m hurdles (Mathesius), 100 m (Brewer), 4×200 relay, 4×100 relay, 400 m (Brewer), 200 m (Mathesius), and 4×400 relay.

They took second place in the 1600 m (Jackson), 400 m (Crow), 200 m (Jezcwski), 800 m (Jackson), long jump (Jackson), high jump (Mathesius), shot put (Abendroth), discus (Abendroth), and pole vault (Stuemke).

Altamont’s third place finishes were in the 110 m hurdles (Stuemke), 1600 m (Budde), 400 m (Monk), and pole vault (Budde).

For the 7th grade girls, the Wildcats totaled 98 points for first place. Neoga finished second with 87 and CHBC had 57. St. Thomas had 39 points for fourth place and Sacred Heart had six points.

Altamont took first in the 110 m hurdles (Becker), 4×100 relay, 800 m (Tedrick), long jump (Berg), and pole vault (Hosick).

Wildcats second place finishes were in the 4×200 relay, 200 m (McManaway), high jump (McManaway), and pole vault (Berg).

Third place finishes for Altamont were in the 1600 m (Tedrick), 800 m (Fulk), 4×400 relay, high jump (Becker), and the long jump (McManaway).

For the 8th grade girls, Altamont finished third overall with 61 points. CHBC had 98 points for first and Neoga finished with 70 for second. St. Thomas had 51 while Sacred Heart finished with eight points.

Altamont captured first place in the 110 m hurdles (Runge) and the 4×100 relay.

They took second in the long jump (Mette) and third in the 100 m (Sigg), 200 m (Runge), 4×400 relay, and pole vault (Mette, Goeckner).

The junior high track team will compete this week in two meets, at Stew-Stras on Tuesday and at Shelbyville on Friday.
