Jacquelynn Harder


Jacquelynn (Jaci) Jo Ann Harder, age 80, passed away peacefully the evening of Saturday, April 8, 2017.

Born in Altamont to J.F. (Jack) and Lucille Leonard, Jaci was a unique and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her.

Jaci graduated from Altamont Community High School in 1954. She went on to college and graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1959. She obtained a Master’s of Education from Northern Illinois University in 1967. During her undergraduate years she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and later became an alumni advisor at Northern Illinois University. She taught business education and computers at DeKalb High School for 26 years and was instrumental in introducing computer technology in to the curriculum.

Following retirement, Jacquelynn and her husband, Jim, relocated to Leesburg, Fla., where she remained busy socializing, reading, gardening, supporting community and humanitarian efforts, and visiting her two granddaughters nearby in Jacksonville, Fla. She was also a lifetime active member of the Presbyterian Church.

Jaci is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, James (Jim) also from Altamont; son, John (Sue); granddaughters, Elle and Kaleigh.

A memorial service will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jacquelynn’s honor to: South Lake Animal League, Inc. PO Box 121504, Clermont, FL 34712.
