May Donaldson age 80, of St. Elmo died 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at her home.
Graveside funeral service was at 10 a.m. Sunday June 27, at Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday June 26, at the Kessel Funeral Home.

May was born on November 3, 1929 in Fayette County the Daughter of Clarence and Effie (Jackson) Jenkins.
She married Robert “Bob” Donaldson on April 24, 1959 in Ramsey.
She retired in 1991 from Stella D’Oro, where she was a line leader for many years. She was also a homemaker, excellent cook, avid flower gardener.
Years ago, she was active with the Brownies and Girl Scouts. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by: husband: Bob, daughter: Tammy (friend: Danny Warner) Morrison of St. Elmo, sons: Pee Wee Donaldson of St. Elmo and Tony (Elizabeth) Donaldson of Ramsey; brothers: Jim (Earlene) Jenkins of St. Elmo, Neil (Doris) Jenkins of Little Rock, Arkansas, Lawrence Jenkins of Mattoon; sisters: Wanda Lovette of Edwardsville, Norma Jolly of Collinsville and twin sister: Faye (Karl) Julius of Beecher City; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, brother: Clarence Jenkins Jr., two brother-In-laws, and one sister-in-law

Laura D. Sheafor Williams, 47, of St. Louis, Missouri formerly of Altamont, passed away at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 18, 2010 at her home.
Memorial service was at 5 p.m., Saturday, June 26, at Covenant Community Church at 1351 Shepley Drive, St. Louis (enter from Lilac). There was a visitation from 4 - 5 p.m.

She was born on December 30, 1962 in Vandalia, she was the daughter of Dr. Max D. and Betty L. (Johnson) Sheafor.
Laura married Charles Williams, II on September 26, 2009.
She was the Chief Operating Officer of Quatro Clippers, St. Louis, MO.
Laura is survived by her husband: Charles Williams, II of St. Louis, MO; son: Robert Scott Belmore of St. Louis, MO; brothers: Don (Sue) Sheafor of Vandalia; Trad (Sloan) Shaefor of Collinsville; and sister: Becky Massie of St. Louis, MO.

Wayne Tipsword, 81,passed away at 12:49 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2010 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital.
Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 14, at Mason Christian Church. The Rev. Rob McKinney officiated.
Burial was at Mason Cemetery, Mason, with military rites by Edgewood American Legion Post #1168.
Visitation was from 4 - 7 p.m. Sunday at Mason Christian Church.

He was born September 11, 1928 in Moultrie Co., to parents Edward and Nellie (Clark) Tipsword.
He married Connie Yingst on October 30, 1954.
He had retired from Fedders in Effingham.
He was a member of the Mason Christian Church and past Fire Chief and volunteer of the Mason Fire Dept.
He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife: Connie of Mason; son: Rick (fiancée, Faith Braden) of Mowequa; daughters: Carla (Ron) Holste of Marshall, Missouri, Sharon Burk of Bryan, Texas, Glenda Tipsword of Mason, Nellie (Mike) Bergfeld of Watson, Tonya (Ed) Hoene of Neoga, and Amy (Wayne) Ruholl of Dieterich; sister: Velma Baucum of Emerson, Arkansas; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, two sisters; Erma Thompson and Ruby Logsdon, two brothers; Bill and Edward Jr., one grandchild; Shane Burk, and two great grandchildren; Karoline and Korey Byers.
Carolyn Louise Beccue

Carolyn Louise Beccue, 66, of Mason near Altamont, passed on to be with her Lord at 5:05 p.m. on Thursday afternoon June 10, 2010 at her home in rural Effingham County.
Funeral service was conducted Monday morning June 14, at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Elmo, with the Rev. Joseph Simburger officiating.
Visitation for family and friends was held on Sunday June 13, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont, with a rosary service was performed at 7:30 p.m.
Burial rites were conducted in Union Cemetery following the funeral services on Monday June 14.

Carolyn Louise Seibert Beccue was born on June 18, 1943 the daughter of John B. and Dorothy L. Durbin-Seibert in Vandalia.
She married Donald Lambert Beccue on August 31, 1962 in the St. Clare Roman Catholic Church, Altamont by Father Morris.
Carolyn was a life member of the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in St. Elmo.
She graduated from St. Elmo Community High School and the attended and received her nursing education from the Mattoon School of Practical Nursing and continued to work in the health care industry from 1961 until her retirement from the Lutheran Care Center, Altamont, in 2004 when her health failed.
Most important she was a farm wife and her and her husband raised nine children.
In Her passing she leaves behind her:mother: Dorothy Louise Durbin-Seibert of St. Elmo; husband: Donald Lambert Beccue of Mason; six sons: Steven Donald (Deanna) Beccue of Mason; David Andrew Beccue of Effingham; Lyle Wayne Beccue of Mason; Gregory Alan (Tiffany) Beccue of Mason; Timothy John (Alison) Beccue of Altamont; Daniel Mark Beccue of Mason three daughters: Diana Kay Beccue of St. Elmo; Rachael Ann Beccue of Mason; Amanda Laura (Andrew) Youngblood of Effingham; one brother: Paul Seibert of St. Elmo; three sisters: Deanna (James “Rich”) Sumrall of Lafayette, Indiana; Veronica (Raymond) Boose of St. Elmo; Angela Parks of Bourbonnais; special friend Juliana Wagner and care giver for a number of years of Mason; special friend Angela Smith of St. Elmo; 10 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her father: John Bonaventure Seibert; her infant son: Jonathan Michael Beccue; her daughter-in-law: Karen Sue Mahon-Beccue; and her grandson: Christopher Steven Beccue.
Ruth Altman

Ruth E (Joliff) Altman, 68, of Edgewood died at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, at St John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Funeral services were held at Edgewood Christian Church at 11 a.m. Monday. Rob McKinney officiated. Burial was at Edgewood Cemetery.
Visitation was at Edgewood Christian Church from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the funeral service Monday.

Ruth was born February 8, 1942, in Monticello, the daughter of John W. and Lola M. (Myers) Joliff.
She married Charles W. (Bill) Altman on February 14, 1960, and the couple recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Ruth was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. She touched all our hearts every day.
She also extended this warmth to the church and its members. She was extremely involved in church activities and shared her special love for many years as a Sunday school teacher. This compassionate love will be missed, but not forgotten.
Surviving are her husband, Bill, of Edgewood; daughter, Melody (Gary) Chrisman of Manito; son, Galen (Rita) Altman of Effingham; son, Chris (Annette) Altman of Altamont; brother, Clyde (Evelyn) Joliff of Edgewood; brother, Carl (Joliff) of Forsyth; seven grandchildren, B.J. Chrisman, Jon Chrisman, Andrew (Kelly) Altman, Mathew Altman, Brooke Altman, Hannah Altman, and Daniel Altman.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and sister, Nelda Joliff.

Ruby O. Goldsborough, 98 of Brownstown, pased away at 9:53 p.m., Sunday, June 6, 2010 at Friendship Manor, St. Elmo.
Celebration of life was at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 9, at Liberty Christian Church, rural Brownstown with Jim Dann and Pee Wee Denton officiating.
Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown, was in charge of arrangements.
Burial was at Liberty Cemetery, Brownstown.

She was born on December 17, 1911 in Sefton Township, Rural Brownstown. She was the daughter of Harvey and Clara (Sapp) Arnold.
She married Eugene A. Goldsborough in 1933, he preceded her in death in 1955.
She had served as the as the Sefton Telephone Operator, had been employed at Robbins Motel, and was retired from Fayette County Hospital.
She was a member of the Liberty Christian Church and the Golden Years Club. She was a poet and an artist.
She is survived by her son: Charles (Lou Ella) Goldsborough of Altamont; daughter: Phyllis (Paul) Sarver of Herrick; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 16 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: parents, husband, brother, Elwood Arnold, three Sisters, Rula Lawson, Lorene Elam, and Mary Arnold, and one great grandson Shawn Sarver.

Roy George Scheidel, 87, of Altamont, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont, with the Rev. Joseph Simburger officiating.

Roy was born on October 14, 1922 in Chicago. He was the son of Roy Francis and Helen Beatrice (Aszman) Scheidel.
He married Dolores Tholl, he then married Elnore Tappendorf on May 2, 1987 and she preceded him in death on June 4, 2008.
He was retired from Jewel Food Stores and was a barber for 50 years.
Roy was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont.
He had served in the Army Air Corp/Air Force during WW II.
He is survived by his sons: Roy (Barbara) Scheidel, Jr, of Tucson, Arizona, James (Becky) Scheidel of Milton, Florida; daughter: Mary Scheidel of Columbus, Ohio; several grandchildrenand several great grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by: parents, and one son John Scheidel.
Helen Ruth Trullinger

Helen Ruth Trullinger, 81 years old formally of Altamont, passed on to be with her Lord at 12:12 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2010 at her home in an assisted living complex know as the Tri-County Extension Care in Fairfield, Ohio.
Funeral service was conducted Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont, with the Rev. Jeff VanDyke officiating.
Visitation for family and friends was held on Tuesday June 8, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont.
Burial rites were conducted in Union Cemetery following the funeral services on Tuesday June 8.

Helen was born on November 9, 1928 the daughter of Horton and Gertrude Logue-Woody in Vandalia.
She married William Willard Trullinger on June 15, 1947 in Altamont, and he preceded her in death on January 30, 1987.
Helen was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Altamont, as well as the Eastern Star Lodge and the VFW Post #7676 Ladies Auxiliary.
Her involvement in community activities discontinued when her health failed and she moved to be nearer her immediate family.
In Her passing she leaves behind her son: William Scott (Dianne) Trullinger of Hamilton, Ohio, and their daughters: Tara Nicole Trullinger, and Tracy Danielle Trullinger; three daughters: Terry Lea (Robert) Grunloh of Indianapolis, Indiana, and their sons: Shawn William (Kris) Grunloh, Shad Richard Grunloh, and their daughter: Michele Leigh Carmichael; Donna Lynn Rodgers of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and her daughter: Christa Noelle Rodgers; Sherry Lou Morris of Hillsboro, Ohio, and her sons:William Lloyd (Angela) Morris, Nathan Michael Morris, and her daughter: Jessica Nicole Morris; nine grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Thomas “Tom” Edward Knauf in an accident on July 10, 1967.

He was employed by Clay County Grain and Farina Locker.
Carrell was a member of the Strasburg Baptist Church.

Hulda was a member of Northside Christian Church, Vandalia and the Golden Years Club, Brownstown.

Ross Lowry Pippin, 78, of St. Elmo, passed away at 8:40 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.

Ross was born on October 27, 1931 in Loogootee, he was the son of Cleon and Oma (Lowry) Pippin.
He married Marjory J. (Stein) Pippin, on March 14, 1954 at St. James Lutheran Church, St. James.
Ross had retired after 42 years from Ralston-Purina as a Traffic and Grain Buyer Manager.
He was a member of: St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vandalia, American Legion Post # 420, St. Elmo, Masonic Lodge, Gieseking-Schwerdtfeger V.F.W. Post # 7676, Altamont, Past member and president of the St. Elmo School Board, Past member of the St. Elmo City Council and the Salvation Army.
Ross had served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He is survived by: his wife: Marjory J. Pippin of St. Elmo; son: Mark (Penny) Pippin of Farina; daughter: Joyce (Kevin) Battjes of Midland, MI.; six grandchildren: Justin (Jessie) Pippin of Urbana, Jacob Pippin of St. Elmo, Amy Pippin of Farina, Jeremy (Nicole) Battjes of Fayetteville, AK., Daniel (Stacie) Battjes of Winston-Salem, NC., and Sarah Battjes of Midland, MI.
He was preceded in death by: Parents, and one daughter, Carolyn Sue Pippin.
Gregory “Greg” Phillip Graham
Gregory “Greg” Phillip Graham, 51, of Elburn, formerly of Lombard, passed away at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family following a long and fierce battle with cancer.
He was born on November 30, 1958 in Effingham, the son of Lynn and Vera (Graumenz) Graham.
He grew up spending many years on his grandparents’ farm and although he built his knowledge in local schools, his character was built on each acre of that farm.
Greg attended St. John’s Lutheran School and graduated from Glenbard East High School with the class of 1977.
Greg found excavating and demolition work in the construction trade, working long hours but always finding time to work on various motorcycles and cars.
Greg never found a motorcycle or car that he couldn’t fix up and sell for more than he paid.
In recent years a 1950 Ford brought him many hours of happiness as well as accolades when he won the First Place Friday Night Award in Lombard.
His vehicle was also chosen to continue with an entry into the World of Wheels.
Greg hosted great parties, and huge bondfires that originally just “happened” but quickly became an annual event that brought friends and family form around the country.
Greg was “one of a kind.” His strength of character that was forged on the farm combined with his infectious unique laugh and warmth of spirit made him unforgettable in every sense of the word.
Gone but not forgotten, his presence can still be found in the legacy of memories he left behind for all those who loved him.
He is survived by his wife Tracy, two sons: Mason Graham of DeKalb and Austin Graham of Elburn; his parents, Lynn and Vera Graham of Lombard; five siblings: Marcia Catalano of Lambard, Kevin Graham of Lombard, Carole (Mark) Roberts of Wheaton, Jeff (Ann) Graham of Downers Grove, and Tim Graham of Lombard, many nieces, nephews, and a family of friends who will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by both his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Visitation was from 4 - 8 p.m., Thursday May 27, at Conley Funeral Home, Elburn.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Friday, May 28, also at the funeral home. The Rev. James Ilten, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lombard, officiated. A private family interment will follow cremation at a later date.

Allen F. Dickman, 90, of Decatur, died at 7:05 p.m., Monday, May 24, 2010, at Aspen Ridge Care Center, Decatur.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Friday, May 28, at the First Baptist Church, Decatur, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the service time at the church.
Masonic services were at 12:45 p.m., prior to the service, conducted by the Stephen Decatur Lodge #979 AF & AM.
Burial was at Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek, with military rights conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.

Mr. Dickman was born on November 11, 1919, in Altamont, the son of Fred and Edith (Parks) Dickman.
He married Vera Boehm on October 20, 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1991.
He later married Mary McMechan Stewart, on May 6, 1995 in Decatur.
Mr. Dickman was a member of the First Baptist Church and a greeter. He was a Life member of 67 years for Stephen Decatur Lodge #979 AF & AM, 50 year member of Altamont #533, member of Macon #8 for 50 years, Past Great Light Lodge #1064 AF & AM, member of Springfield Consistory, Ansar Shrine Temple, Decatur, Shrine Club, Zohak Grotto, and 50 year member of Decatur Chapter Order of Eastern Star #111.
Mr. Dickman worked as a meat cutter for 32 years for Jewel and Eisners and was a member of United Food and Commercial Workers Union #1540.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII and a member of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Decatur; son Larry (Sandra) Dickman of Harristown; daughters Melody Ann, and Sandra; stepdaughter Diana (Pat) Colvin of Forsyth; granddaughters Jill Covey, Kristen Dickman; great-grandson Aidan Crowe; step-grandson Ron; step-granddaughter Jennifer (Tim) Aughenbaugh and husband Tim; step-great-granddaughter Casey; brother Bill (Ann) Dickman; and many nieces and nephews.

Elvera Louise Crowell was born on December 16, 1912 the daughter and one of five siblings of Albert August and Adeline Louise Hillemann-Milleville on the family farm, Mound Township, Effingham County, near Altamont.
She married: J. Floyd Crowell on October 17, 1944 in Grand Haven, Michigan and he preceded her in death on April 1, 1969.
Elvera was a baptized and confirmed member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Altamont. Her confirmation class was the first group to be confirmed in the new church in 1925.
She was a graduate of Altamont Community High School with the class of 1932.
She was a member of the Ladies Aid of the Church or the WELCA. She had been active making quilts for Lutheran World Relief for many years with the women of the St. Paul ELCA in Altamont, an organization that dates back decades in the Church; the Altamont Garden Club and the Exxon Annuitant Club.
She had been employed at Art Whilers and George Bohlander’s Drug Store in Altamont which preceded her last employment before her retirement as a medical receptionist at the Marshall Clinic in Effingham, for over 15 years.
In Her passing she leaves behind her: son: Ronald Floyd (Robin) Crowell of Jenks, OK.; daughter: Janice Louis (Glenn) Elliott of Leland, North Carolina, and their son: Joshua Glenn (Meaghan) Elliott of Baltimore, MA.; and their daughter: Allison Louise Elliott of Redding, CA.; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; infant brother:Elwin Milleville at one-and-a-half-years-old; three-sisters: Nora and her husband Alfred Miller; Helma and her husband Henry Miller; Elsie and her husband James Beard.

Ed was born on January 2, 1941 in Brownstown, he was the son of Elmer and Ruth (Crawford) Kistler.
He married Karen Sue Bearden, on December 19, 1965 in Vandalia.
He had retired after 32 years from World Color Press, Effingham.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Altamont.
Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965.
He is survived by: his wife of 44 years, Karen; sons: Jeff (Tracy) Kistler of Watson and their children, Trey, Kylie, and Carter Kistler; Andy (Cheri) Kistler of Effingham and their children, Taylor and Brooke Kistler; daughter: Stephanie (Rex) Homann and their children, Holly, Elizabeth and Annika Homann, of Altamont; brother: Jim (Ingrid) Kistler of St. Louis, MO; brother-in-law: Bob (Vera) Bearden of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-law: Sharon Bearden of Denver, CO; and eight grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by: his parents, father-in-law, Robert Bearden and mother-in-law Mayna Bearden.

Ashely R. Reiss, 24, of Vandalia, passed away at 10:17 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at the Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Vandalia. The Rev. Father Joseph Havrilka officiated. Interment was at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia.
Visitation was from 5 - 8 p.m., Friday, May 28, at the Mother of Dolors Parish Center, Vandalia.
A prayer service were held at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, May 28 at the Mother of Dolors Parish Center, Vandaila.

Ashley was born on May 23, 1986, she was the daughter of Alan Rodgers, Sr., and Brenda Sue Baker.
She married Kyle Reiss on April 10, 2010.
Ashley was a respiratory therapist at Bandy’s Medical Equipment in Vandalia.
She was a member of the Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Vandalia.
Ashley is survived by: her husband, Kyle Reiss, of Vandalia; father Richard Rodgers Sr., of Altamont; mother Brenda Triplett, of Albuquerque, NM.; brother, Richard (Angi) Rodgers Jr., of Altamont; three sisters: Misty (Chris) Kiser, of Effingham; Elizabeth Rodgers, of Altamont; Stacey Aschenbeck, of Giddings, TX.; grandparents: Pat Norwood, of Carmi; Mary Baker, of Benton; father-in-law, Tim Reiss, of Mt. Zion; and mother-in-law, Janis (Randy) Edwards, of Vandalia.

Olivia Ryan Sidwell, infant daughter of Gregory R. and Cynthia (Musgrave) Sidwell of Altamont died on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at 2:01 a.m., at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Memorial Service was at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 15, at the First Baptist Church, Altamont. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, in charge of arrangements.
Private family burial will follow.

Olivia was born at 1:03 a.m., Wednesday, May 12, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

James E. Aiken, Jr., 39, of Altamont passed away at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2010.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Tipsword Cemetery near Beecher City with the Rev. Dennis Warner officiating.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. until service time at Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Beecher City. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born December 24, 1970 in Kings Mountain, NC the son of James E. Aiken, Sr. and Tempie Green.
Surviving are his fiancée, Violet Gordon; daughter, Christina Aiken ; step-children, Shannon, Shana and Cody Mathis, Melanie Leftford, Emily McWhorter, April and Olivia Jewell, Heather, Amber, Billy, Ashley and Chris Bartlett; and six grandchildren.

Larry Joe Pruett, 57, of Brownstown, passed away at 8:17 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia.
Graveside service was at 11 a.m., Friday, May 7, at Griffith Cemetery, rural Brownstown, with B.J. Deal officiating. Military Rites were conducted by V.F.W. Post #9770, Brownstown.
Memorials may be made to the Brownstown V.F.W. or donor’s choice.
Larry was born on June 25, 1952 in Vandalia. His parents’ were Ivan E. and Cora (Ward) Pruett.
He married Gloria Von Behren, on December 15, 1973 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Paul.
He was an operator in construction.
Larry was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 9770, Brownstown. He served during Vietnam in the Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife: Gloria Pruett of Brownstown; sons: Derek Pruett and Special Friend Tara Hoyle of Brownstown, and Dustin (Lindsey) Pruett of Vandalia; mother: Cora Pruett of Brownstown; brother: Galen (Glenna) Pruett of St. Peter; sister: Sue Thompson of Brownstown; three grandchildren: Blane, Jordan and Gracie Pruett.
He was preceded in death by his: father and brother, Ivan R. Pruett.
Bertha P. Sweedler
Bertha P. Sweedler (nee Fairchild) 95, passed away Wednesday, April 28,2010.
Born in St. Elmo, IL to the late William and Lucy (Diveley), living in New Lenox for over 40 years.
She is survived by her loving family; daughter Sheryl (Joe) Hill;
grandchildren Joseph (Nicole) Hill and Kathleen Hill-White; great
grandchildren Jack and Jessica White, and Sean and Megan Hill; several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Eugene C., four brothers and three sisters.
Visitation was at the Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Road, New Lenox on Sunday, May 2 from 2 8 p.m.
Funeral Services were on Monday, May 3, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment Providence Ridge Cemetery, Elwood.

Joseph O. Goings
Joseph O. Goings, 77, Altamont, passed on to be with his Lord at 11:35 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at his home in Altamont.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning May 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altamont, with the Rev. Dr. James
R. Wright officiating.
Visitation for family and friends was Tuesday May 4, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont and again for one hour prior to the funeral
service Wednesday at the Church. There was also a visitation at the McDaniel Funeral Home from 2 - 4 p.m. prior to the committal service.
Military Burial Rites will be conducted in Union Cemetery Sparta, following the Sparta visitation service by Rev. Bruce A. Cameron and the local VFW
Post # 2698.

Joseph Oliver Goings was born on February 25, 1933 the son and one of 11 siblings of William Preston and Arbella Farley-Goings in Princeton, West
Virginia.
He married Albertha Dora Gerlach in 1952 at the St. John¹s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sparta, and she preceded him in death on October 1, 1990.
Joseph was a baptized and confirmed member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altamont. He and his wife and two boys moved to Altamont in
1970 from Sparta, while working for World Color Press in Effingham, where he retired in 1993 as the bindery manager.
He then was a part-time employee of Bob's Salvage in Effingham, until his health did not allow him to continue working. While living in Sparta he was
very proud of being a Boy Scout leader, and while retired in Altamont enjoyed horticulture and fishing.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was especially proud of his granddaughters, and he loved
spending time with his family.
In his passing he leaves behind his: two-sons: Dennis Gene (Terri) Goings of Mattoon, and their children: Christina Goings and her daughter Evelyn
Thompson; Selena Goings; Sarah Goings; Christina Guadiana; Jessica Guadiana; Dale Robert (Stacia) Goings of Effingham, and their daughter: Taryn Goings;
one-brother: Howard Goings of San Antonio, Texas; one-sister: Lola Mills of Berkley, West Virginia; six Grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, wife, two-sons: David Preston Goings in his youth at 14 years of age in 1969, Ronald Goings in his
infancy, seven-brothers and one-sister.
