Ministerial Alliance Pulls Churches Together For VBS
BY: TYSON PEARCY Banner Staff The St. Elmo Ministerial Alliance worked together to host a city-wide Vacation Bible School on Monday, June 14 and Tuesday, June 15. Originally planned to be held at the city park, the event had to be relocated to the First Church of God due to in-climate weather. The alliance consists of six local church pastors; Bob Miller from the Assembly of God, Jim Giffin from First Church of God, Les Atkins First Baptist Church, Jakob Barrienteos Freedom Reigns in Christ, Tom Fedrigon St. Elmo Christian Church, and Alice True from the United Methodist Church. Traditionally, these churches have not been known for working together. In fact, they have at times been “down right combative” according to Fedrigon. Fedrigon said about the occasion, “We don’t have to worship together, or even in the same way, but we are all on the same side.” True had this to say about the united vbs, “ Often times this community is very divided.” She added, “If we can show unity, then so can the community.” This month will also be the last for True as the United Methodist pastor, as she is being relocated to serve in West Salem. She mentioned that it should be looked at as a positive thing for herself as well as the communities.
