Altamont  City Discusses Open Burning Issues

Altamont City officials discussed opening burning inside city limits during their regular meeting on June 14.
Altamont Mayor Larry Taylor said open burning is a tough issue to discuss.
"It depends on what people are burning," Taylor said.  "If people are out have a wiener roast or campfire is different then somebody burning wet grass and leaves."
City Commissioner Heidi Wilson asked Mayor Taylor how the city could police the issue.
City Clerk Sarah Stephen told the council during a recent city clerk meeting where eight area towns were represented not one city had a burning ordinance.
